A NEW VISION FOR ABC STEWART MONTESSORI SCHOOL
It is said that Maria Montessori was fascinated by Froebel blocks. Today, the typical Montessori classroom displays learning toys made from natural materials on open shelves. From across the room, children are drawn to their simple shapes and colors. The openness of the classroom en- courages the child to explore their environment, and to naturally develop a love of learning.
INNER/CONNECT builds on that simple idea. A grand courtyard is enclosed by an all-encompassing inner hallway that acts as a transitional space, in which children can connect with nature, children of different ages, cozy learning centers, and semi-private classrooms. These varied liminal spaces allow a child’s sense of curiosity to guide them, in order to foster a strong sense of their burgeoning independence.
“For Froebel, the underlying principle is unity or inner connection of design and purpose.”
